St Andrew the Less in Cambridge is the 13th-century church on Newmarket Road, not far from the Elizabeth Way Roundabout, set back a little from the street, behind a row of scraggly trees and bushes.  It was built by Barnwell Priory's Augustinian Canons for the people that had moved to to the area to provide for the foundation.

The St Andrew the Less Community Project exists to conserve and revitalise this historic 13th-century church and its churchyard, creating a sustainable space that celebrates community, heritage, and biodiversity.

Through careful restoration and sensitive reuse, the project will:

  • Preserve and interpret the site’s unique heritage;

  • Provide an inclusive and welcoming community hub for learning, wellbeing, and creativity; and

  • Protect and enhance the biodiversity of the churchyard as a haven for wildlife and environmental education.

In doing so, the project will honour the past while nurturing a place of inspiration, belonging, and sustainability for generations to come.
